Born & raised in the Lower Mainland, Dr. Shabita Teja went to the University of British Columbia to pursue a degree in pharmaceutical sciences & is a licensed pharmacist in BC. She completed her training at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine & is now a licensed naturopathic physician as well with additional certifications in IV therapy (including Vitamin C, antioxidant, chelation & proprietary IV addiction protocols), acupuncture & prescription authority. Dr. Shabita is a naturopath in good standing with the College of Naturopathic Physicians of BC (CNPBC) & a member of both the BC & Canadian Naturopathic Associations (BCNA & CAND).

As someone who has gone through her own health challenges including chronic pain & Ulcerative colitis, Shabita has seen first-hand that the balance between acute and supportive therapies is one of the keys to wellness. As such, she strives to bridge the gap between conventional & naturopathic medicine to not only treat but support her patient’s wellbeing.

She takes pride in becoming involved in her community & has served on the Board of Directors for United Ostomy Canada (UOC), written a number of articles for UOC, South Asian Woman, & even provided weekly wellness tips for Country 107.1FM in the past. Recently, she co-authored a piece on chronic pain for the Naturopathic Doctor News & Review (NDNR) & the piece was awarded the 1st place Research Review award & will be published in Spring 2019. Finally, she has appeared on Global BC TV’s Health Matters segments four individual times discussing topics such as probiotics & fermented foods, acid reflux & the recent health fad involving daily consumption of celery juice.

Dr. Shabita has a naturopathic practice at Sinclair Wellness Centre in downtown Vancouver that blends evidence based medicine & traditional naturopathic wisdom so that her patients receive the best care possible. She is passionate about facilitating her patient’s healing by getting to the root cause of their condition, & more importantly, walking beside them in their health journey.

Dr. Shabita continues to manage her chronic pain while living a life of vitality with her amazing husband of 10 years & little puppy Brulee who is always there to bring smile to her face. They hope to have children soon & have started the fertility & surrogacy journey. Knowing firsthand what it’s like to face a challenging health condition that impacts every aspect of her life, Dr. Shabita can truly empathize with her patients & will always be transparent & provide the motivation they need to continue to strive towards a life not only of health & wellness, but one of pure vitality.
